Learning from my favorite childhood movie
Ever since my son started to love watching cartoons and movies, I’ve always tried to get him to enjoy Toy Story.
It’s my favorite eh.
I would put it on and he would just ignore it.
Dati all he wanted was Lightning McQueen.
But in the past few months, he started to like other shows like Hotel Transylvania, Despicable Me, Boss Baby, and yes, Toy Story hehe
In my mind, it was as simple as a father getting his son to like what he likes.
it was me influencing my son.
Then this morning, while watching Toy Story 2 for the nth time, it hit me.
This is sales.
While yes, sales is an exchange of value or a transaction where a product and service is delivered in exchange for payment.
But beyond that, sales and marketing really is getting people to see what you see.
I’d even dare say na it’s about getting people to love what you love.
It’s not always about providing the best product or service or outplaying your competitors when it comes to sales tactics and marketing strategies.
It’s about getting people to see and even believe in your vision?
Is that too meta?
Think about this
A simple haircut.
If you’re like me, I just get a haircut from the nearest one from where I am because of the convenience.
But really, I have the option to go to any barber shop.
But the people in the barber shop understand that there are people like me who value convenience.
Their vision is that haircuts should not be a hassle.
And I buy into that vision, whether I’m aware of it or not.
Or how about kitchen items?
Department stores make it a point to have demos of kitchen items because they explicitly want to sell you the vision of what having those tools can do for you.
We sell visions that influence buying behavior.
It’s not ALWAYS about the product or service.
so if you’re having difficulty bribing in sales, you may need to reconfirm what is the vision you are trying to put out there and if you’re able to communicate that vision clearly.
