That One Time I Was Almost That Douche
A few weeks ago, I attended an event which was in no way business-related.
But, I got feedback from a friend some other weeks back that there may be people I’ll meet in this gathering that may be interested in my services.
The morning of the event, as I was leaving the house, I told my wife that I’d be bringing my business cards.
She told me not too.
So I didn’t.
And I’m glad I didn’t.
If I did, I would have been that douchebag at a social gathering who approaches strangers and starts selling.
Nobody likes that guy.
Don’t be that guy.
And for this particular event, I’m glad I wasn’t that guy.
Instead of introducing myself by what I do, people got to know me for who I am.
And it brought about great new friendships.
Friendships that wouldn’t have happened if I became THAT guy.
Are you THAT guy? Is your business THAT guy?
If you’re running ads on Facebook for your business and all you say is “BUY ME! BUY ME! BUY ME!”, I hate to break it to you but you’re being that douche at the party.
Remember that Facebook is that party. People go to the platform to connect and engage, not to buy and shop.
Stop being THAT guy and starting developing relationships and genuine conversations on Facebook with your target audience.
People buy from businesses they know, like and trust.
Douchebags are hard to know, like and trust.
Don’t be a douchebag.
Because only you can do you.
And you are awesome.
